🐜 Active termites found? The right treatment makes all the difference.

One of our technicians installing an above-ground termite bait station directly over active termite workings inside a client's home.

Above-ground bait stations are specifically used to treat active termite infestations. They are installed directly onto termite leads or damaged timber where termites are actively feeding. The termites continue feeding as normal and carry the bait back through the colony, allowing the treatment to spread throughout the infestation.

The key to a successful baiting treatment is patience and regular monitoring. Our technicians return every 2–3 weeks to inspect the bait station, replenish bait when required, and monitor the progress until the colony has been eliminated.

❌ Don't spray active termites.
❌ Don't break open termite leads or damaged timber.

Disturbing termites can cause them to abandon the area and establish elsewhere in the home, making the infestation much more difficult to eliminate.

At Elite Building & Pest Services, we tailor every termite treatment to the specific infestation, ensuring the most effective approach is used to eliminate the colony.

🐜 Think termites only come up through the ground? Think again.

This is an active termite lead we discovered entering a home in Charlestown during a recent inspection.

What you're seeing is a mud lead (or termite tunnel) built by subterranean termites. These tunnels allow termites to travel from the soil into the timber structure of a home while staying protected from light, predators, and dehydration.

The scary part? By the time mud leads become visible, termites may have already been causing damage behind walls or under floors for months.

βœ… If you notice mud tubes like this, don't disturb them. Contact a licensed termite specialist immediately so the colony can be accurately identified and treated.

At Elite Building & Pest Services, we specialise in:

πŸ•·οΈ What's Hiding Under Your Wheelie Bin?

This female redback spider was recently found living underneath a customer's wheelie bin, along with several egg sacs.

Redbacks prefer dark, sheltered areas, making the underside of bins, outdoor furniture, letterboxes and sheds ideal hiding places.

⚠️ If you regularly move your bins, take a quick look underneath before grabbing the handlesβ€”especially if children help bring the bins in.

If you notice:
β€’ Spider webs around your bins
β€’ Egg sacs
β€’ Multiple spiders around the property

It may be time for a professional pest treatment.

At Elite Building & Pest Services, we provide effective pest control treatments to help protect your home from redbacks, spiders, cockroaches, ants and other common household pests.

🐜 Ever wondered what the inside of a termite bait bag looks like?

This video shows active termites feeding inside one of our termite bait bags during an ongoing termite management program.

You'll notice that most of the termites are soldiers. Their job is to defend the colony, and their large jaws mean they can't actually feed themselves. The smaller white termites you can see are the workers. They're the ones responsible for feeding the rest of the colony, including the soldiers, and they are the termites that consume the bait and distribute it throughout the nest.

This is exactly what we want to see during a successful baiting program. As the workers continue feeding on the bait, they carry it back to the colony, helping to eliminate termites at their source rather than simply killing the ones you can see.

If you ever discover termites around your property:
🚫 Don't spray them.
🚫 Don't disturb them.
βœ… Have them professionally inspected as soon as possible.

🐜 Termite Baiting Systems

Active termites? Don't spray them.

Spraying termites yourself can cause the colony to relocate, making the problem harder to eliminate.

Professional termite baiting targets the colony over time, helping eliminate the source of the infestation.

If you suspect termite activity, contact us before disturbing them.

🚨 Hidden Termite Damage Could Have Ended Very Differently 🚨

This video was taken at a commercial property in Newcastle, with residential units located above the premises.

We initially discovered termite damage in another section of the building during an inspection. Based on our findings, we had concerns there may be further concealed damage in areas that weren't accessible for inspection.

One area of concern was beneath a staircase. As access wasn't available, an invasive inspection was recommended and approved, requiring an access panel to be cut into the wall.

What we found was alarming.

Extensive termite damage had compromised the structural framework supporting the staircase. The damage was hidden from view and could not have been detected without further investigation.

Following the inspection, the staircase was deemed unsafe for use. Residents of the units above were required to find temporary accommodation while emergency works were carried out and the staircase was made safe.

While invasive inspections can sometimes seem like an inconvenience, this is a perfect example of why they can be critical. Had the damage remained undiscovered, the outcome could have been far more serious, potentially resulting in significant injury.

Termites don't just damage timberβ€”they can compromise the safety of an entire structure.

If termite activity is found in your property, it's important to investigate thoroughly and not assume the visible damage is the full extent of the problem.

🐜 Termites Never Cease to Amaze Us! 🐜

These photos were taken during a termite inspection at a local school, and it turned out to be one of the more interesting inspections we've carried out recently.

We discovered extensive termite workings throughout the subfloor area, with the termites showing just how determined they can be when searching for a food source.

Some of the photos show termite leads travelling up steel support poles, bridging across to the termite management system, and then continuing their journey into the structure. In other areas, we found leads hanging down from above as the termites attempted to make their way back to the ground.

It's a great reminder that termites don't always take the most direct route. They'll exploit tiny gaps, build protective mud tubes, and travel surprising distances to reach timber while staying hidden from predators and the environment.

The amount of activity and the complexity of the workings made this a fascinating inspection, but it's also a reminder of why regular termite inspections are so importantβ€”especially for larger buildings where termite activity can remain hidden for long periods.
