You've probably seen "5 coat epoxy system" mentioned on flooring pages. But what does that actually mean? 🤔

Every layer has a job to do, and the system only works when each one is applied correctly over properly prepared concrete.
Here's what Ultimate Floors - flake flooring system looks like from the ground up 👇

🪨 Concrete / Substrate
Diamond ground to CSP 2–3 to the entire floor area. No acid etching ever. Not swept and coated. Mechanically treated to create the required texture for base coats to lock in for secure bonding
🔵 Epoxy Prime Coat
Penetrating primer at ~100µm. Seals the slab and gives the body coat a consistent base to hold onto.

🎨 Epoxy Base + Flake Broadcast
Depending on the flake size, body coats are laid down from 250–400µm with full decorative flake broadcast adding 100–120µm to the system so far. Flake is full coverage - not a 50, 60 or 70% scatter coverage.

✨ Clear UV-Stable Topcoat
Urethane or Polyaspartic at 80–100µm per coat. Two coats recommended for durability and UV resistance in Queensland conditions.

📏 Total System DFT: 430–720µm
Overall film thickness is the number that actually matters, not the coat count.
A floor built to this standard is not a luxury. It's a return on investment more-so when marketing your home for resale. 💪
