Multi-generational homes.
With the cost of housing in Australia, many young people have almost given up on owning their own homes. However there is a solution "close to home"....Stay at home and re-design the floor plan to cater for the next generation.
Part of my job as a Registered Building Designer is to re-image a home to new families but also to existing, changing families. Older members coming to live, couples living at home, wanting to save for a deposit, or just rowdy teenagers who have out-grown their bedrooms.
Homes should be adaptable for all generations so they can stay close to home as long as possible. It not only makes economic sense, but also financial sense in the times we now live in.

Owner Building?

Started working on few designs specifically targeting towards owner builders after a conversation with a builder I do work for.
He’s getting more calls to work as a contractor rather than a registered builder as clients are worried about quality and want to take on more control in the building process.

Loving these videos provided by the Building and Plumbing Commission. Provide clear explanation of how building elements are to be assessed.
Makes my job easier. Rather than cut and paste details from installation manuals, I like to re-draw my construction details specifically for the job at hand.

Back registered as a Building Designer again after 2 year absence. (25 years in total)
Although it’s not that important to a lot of “drafties”, I think it’s important to be accountable the work that you produce.
Always check that the people you engage, professionals and trades are Registered Building Practitioners (Victoria) and where required in other states.
