Most people think about colour first. What they don't realise is that texture is often doing more of the work.

The way a fine grass softens the edge of a concrete path. The way white salvia rises in soft upright spires and makes everything around it feel more intentional. The way a soft white salvia makes a pathway feel like it was always meant to be there.

These are the four varieties we keep coming back to when a garden needs depth, contrast and something that earns its place in every season - not just the weeks it happens to be flowering.

A pool designed without thinking about the landscape around it is just a pool.

When everything is designed together the materials respond to each other. The proportions work. The planting frames the water rather than fighting it.

That's what makes the difference between something that looks assembled and something that feels like it was always meant to be there.

Camberwell Project was designed during my time at Laguna, and it was named SPASA Victoria’s Best Concrete Pool up to $240,000 for 2024!

There's usually a moment partway through a project when the space starts to reveal what it actually wants to be.

We're interested in that moment. In the orientation, the existing bones, the afternoon light moving across the block in ways the owners have mostly stopped noticing.

We don't design over what's already there. We design around it.

Full design development and documentation, ready for a contractor to build from. And we stay involved through the build because the quality of the ex*****on is just as much a part of the result as the quality of the design.

Every project we've ever done started with someone standing in their garden or standing in what they hoped would become one and having a feeling they couldn't quite articulate.

Not a brief. Not a wish list. Just a feeling that the space could be doing something for them that it currently wasn't.

We love hearing how happy our customers are with their finished outdoor space.

“Matt took exactly what I wanted for my outdoor space and turned it into reality...”

A good outdoor space is rarely about one decision. It is the hundred small ones made properly - the line of a tile, the ease of a conversation, the patience to refine something until it feels right.

That has always been my approach. Not simply designing a space that looks good on the day it’s finished, but creating one that continues to feel right long after.

The details are often doing more than they appear to.

The way a path turns and slows your pace. The material underfoot beside the water. The planting that softens a line just enough, so the whole space feels calmer for it.

None of these things ask to be noticed. They simply shape how a place feels and are usually only missed when they are absent.

That is often what good design is. Quiet decisions, made with care, that stay with you long after the work is done.

Some names are chosen quickly. Others stay because they continue to mean something.

A beginning hidden beneath the surface.

Seeing the name on our shirts is a small reminder of how we want to work each day - with care in the unseen stages, trust in the process and respect for what takes time to grow.
