🔊 Yesterday we asked you to guess what was causing this strange noise...

The culprit wasn't a loose fitting or faulty plumbing at all.

As hot water flowed through the pipe, the heat caused it to expand. Because one of the pipe brackets had been installed too tightly, the pipe couldn't move freely. Instead, it knocked against the bracket every time it expanded, creating that frustrating noise you could hear through the wall.

The fix?

Shane simply loosened the bracket slightly, giving the pipe enough room to expand and contract naturally. Problem solved! 👌

It's a great reminder that sometimes the loudest problems have the simplest solutions—if you know what you're looking for.

There's nothing worse than hearing a strange noise coming from inside your walls... especially when you have no idea what's causing it.

This customer only heard the noise when someone used the hot water upstairs. By the time Shane arrived, the homeowner had already started investigating (hence the paper covering the hole in the plaster!).

Even with over 30 years' experience, this one had Shane scratching his head at first. 🤔

Meet the hardest-working member of the Plumbstruct fleet... 🚛

Shane's trusty ute has seen it all.

Bathroom renovations.
Extensions.
Emergency plumbing call-outs.
Roofing materials.
Timber.
Tools.
And on this day... enough insulation board to line an entire attic!

It might not be the newest or fanciest ute on the road, but it's carried thousands of kilometres' worth of materials and helped transform countless homes across Melbourne.

It's loaded high today with foilboard insulation, ready to help make this heritage home's new attic and therefore the rest of the home more comfortable year-round—keeping the heat out in summer and the warmth in during winter.

Sometimes the journey to a beautiful renovation starts with a ute packed to the absolute limit.

⛳ We finally convinced Shane to take a day off.

No tool belt.
No tape measure.
No clients.

Just a golf club, a beautiful view and a few hours to switch off...
..although we're pretty sure he was still judging the drainage on every fairway and wondering how he'd improve the clubhouse. 😂

Every great renovation starts with... a rough sketch. ✏️➡️

This is how a lot of our projects begin.

Not with fancy 3D renders or complicated plans, but with Shane sitting down and sketching out ideas while talking to our clients about how they actually use the space.

For this laundry, the goal was simple:
✔️ Stack the washer and dryer.
✔️ Maximise storage.
✔️ Keep the sink functional.
✔️ Make everything easy to use.

A few pencil lines on graph paper became a custom-built laundry that works beautifully and makes the most of every millimetre.

The finished product might look effortless, but it's the planning behind the scenes that makes all the difference.

Sometimes the simplest sketches lead to the best solutions. 💙

This bloke is the reason Plumbstruct is different.

It's hard to explain if you've never worked with Shane. But if he's renovated your home... you'll know exactly what we mean.

He doesn't just build bathrooms, extensions and renovations. He solves problems.

When others say, "It can't be done," Shane starts working out how it can.

He'll spend the time getting to know how you live, what's frustrating you about your current home and what you actually want to achieve—because the best renovation isn't the one that looks the fanciest... it's the one that works perfectly for the family living in it.

If a tile cut will draw your eye, he'll change the layout.

If there's a detail that might annoy you every day for the next 20 years, he'll redesign it before it ever becomes a problem.

Most of those details are things our clients never even notice.

And that's exactly the point.

Because when a renovation feels effortless, it's usually because someone has spent hundreds of hours thinking about all the little things on your behalf.

🚪 Cavity sliders and showers don't always play nicely together... unless you plan for it.

One of the biggest challenges when designing a bathroom is when a shower sits next to a cavity sliding door.

Why?

Because you can't waterproof inside the cavity pocket, so if water finds its way under the door, it can end up where it shouldn't.

Our solution is to install a waterstop angle.

This creates a small barrier beneath the doorway, directing any water back into the shower where it belongs, while allowing the waterproofing membrane to terminate correctly.

It's one of those little details you'll never see once the bathroom is finished... but it's the difference between a bathroom that lasts for decades and one that develops hidden water damage.

It's not the glamorous part of a renovation, but it's exactly the sort of thing we obsess over.

Sometimes it's nice to remember why we do what we do.

Yes, we build bathrooms, renovate homes, fix leaks and solve problems... but at the end of the day, it's all for this. ❤️

Creating a life we love.
Making memories together.
Showing our kids that hard work, integrity and looking after people really does pay off.

Running a family business isn't always easy. It means early mornings, late nights, missed weekends and plenty of sacrifices. But it also gives us the opportunity to build something together and hopefully set an example for our kids that they're proud of.

This little holiday was exactly what we needed—a chance to switch off, recharge and spend some quality time together.

Now it's back to reality... and we're grateful for that too.
