🌱 June Planting Guide

Looking for easy winter crops?

This month I'm growing:

🥕 Radish
🌿 Parsley
🌸 Pansies

All three grow well in Melbourne's cooler weather, and every one of them can be enjoyed by both the family and the pets.

What are you planting this month?

🌱 Winter Refresh

The Vegepod was looking a little bare, so I gave it a winter refresh.

This time I planted cauliflower, blueberries, mint and edible flowers for the rabbits and guinea pigs.

The cauliflower and mint was a hit straight away. I’m hoping the blueberry bush and flowers survives a few curious nibbles! 🐰🐹

💡 Garden myth?

A neighbour asked if my solar lights are there to extend the growing season.

Nope.

They’re just there because they make the garden look pretty at night. 🌱✨

Sometimes the garden is for the humans too.

🐰🌱 Vegepod update – 6 months later

The clear winners have been celery and parsley. They handle the cooler weather, cope with part shade and keep producing.

The silverbeet, lettuce and pansies didn’t fail… they were just eaten too quickly. 😅

I thought snap peas would be a great winter crop, but Pepper ate the stalks before they had a chance to grow.

Lesson learned: Plant more celery, more parsley and protect anything Pepper likes. 🐹🌱

What’s been your most reliable winter crop? 👇

🐹 Pepper!!

I thought I had protected my broad bean seedlings with toilet rolls around the stems.

Pepper had other ideas.

She has eaten every broad bean stalk in the bed except one. 🌱😅

One broad bean plant remains. Will it survive? Stay tuned…

I spend hours growing fresh food for the rabbits…

Coco spends hours chewing things that aren’t food. 😆

Anyone else’s rabbit do this?

05/06/2026

🐰😂 Coco had the best time today!

His bath mat didn’t stand a chance. He spent ages tugging, pulling and removing all the little material balls until there was a huge mess across the floor.

The good news? He was busy destroying his own toy instead of my things!

Sometimes the simplest enrichment ideas are the best.

Does anyone else’s rabbit have a favourite toy they love to destroy? 🐰

🐹🥒 Pepper and Fluff absolutely love cucumber!

The moment I put a piece down, they grab it and run off to their favourite hiding spot so nobody can steal it. 😂

I think it’s safe to say cucumber is a guinea pig favourite around here!

Do your guinea pigs have a food they can’t resist?
