🔨 𝗧𝗔𝗙𝗘 𝗡𝗦𝗪 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗺𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 👷

Last month, a networking workshop for our Carpentry & Building faculty was held at TAFE NSW - Goulburn where teaching, management and support staff from Cooma and Goulburn campuses attended.

The workshop was part of a state-wide networking initiative, focussing on Carpentry & Building industry currency and discussing teaching methods for continuing improvement within TAFE NSW.

The workshop included presentations from industry professionals including from Jindabyne’s Alpine PassivHaus owner, Klaus Herrmann.

Klaus volunteered his time to present information surrounding high performance building, superior construction methods that focus on sustainability, and PassivHaus’s construction methods that are well-suited to the unique Alpine climate of the Snowy Mountains and other colder regions of NSW.

This course builds on the strong foundation established through our previous WUFI training, further expanding our expertise in advanced hygrothermal modelling and the analysis of complex two-dimensional building details.

As building science continues to evolve, so do we.

The advanced WUFI training enables us to better understand and predict how heat and moisture move through building assemblies, helping us design buildings that perform reliably for decades.

This ongoing professional development allows us to:

✅ Optimise wall and roof assemblies for Australian climates
✅ Analyse complex thermal bridges and moisture risks in 2D details

Great day at Future Build Sydney!

It was fantastic catching up with Jamie Durie and connecting with so many people who are passionate about the future of sustainable construction and off-site manufacturing.

🎙️ Last Friday I had the pleasure of joining Eddie Williams on ABC South East NSW to discuss the opportunities and challenges of prefabricated housing in Australia.

At Alpine PassivHaus, we manufacture prefabricated wall, roof, and floor panels right here in the Snowy Mountains, creating healthy, sustainable, high-performance homes.

We discussed how prefabrication can deliver:
✅ Higher quality through factory-controlled manufacturing
✅ Faster construction by producing panels while site works are underway
✅ Greater reliability with fewer weather delays
✅ Reduced waste and more efficient use of skilled trades
✅ Long-term cost savings through standardised, pre-engineered designs

We also discussed some of the challenges facing the industry, including outdated inspection processes, access to finance, and the difficulties smaller manufacturers face in accessing larger government housing projects.

A positive development is the introduction of dedicated prefab home loans, such as the Commonwealth Bank's prefab finance offering, which better reflects how off-site construction works and helps support industry growth.
