We’ve been coming across this more frequently on recent jobs—electrical faults caused by white ants (termites) building mud nests around wiring.

It’s not just structural damage they cause. When termites get into wall cavities, they can surround cables, trap moisture, and even compromise insulation. Over time, this can lead to short circuits, tripping issues, or more serious electrical faults.

It’s a good reminder that pest activity doesn’t just affect timber—it can impact your electrical system too.

Definitely something worth keeping an eye on, especially in older homes or areas prone to termite activity

A Client reported ongoing and consistent tripping of electrical circuits. Upon inspection and testing, evidence of rodent (mice) activity was identified within the electrical installation.

Rodent damage is a common cause of electrical faults, as mice can chew through cable insulation. This can expose live conductors, leading to short circuits, earth leakage, and repeated tripping of safety devices such as circuit breakers or RCDs.

The presence of damaged cabling presents a safety risk, including potential electric shock and fire hazards. It is likely that the tripping issues are directly related to this damage.
