Although my residency at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop is coming to an end, Letter to Home 家書 is only just beginning. 🩵

I’m continuing to collect letters from people in Edinburgh and beyond, especially from immigrant communities, who would like to take part.

If you’d like to join, simply write a handwritten letter to your “home”.

It could be a place, a person, a country, a past home, or even an imagined one. It could be a memory, a message, a thought, or simply something you want to say.

There’s no right or wrong way to write your letter, and you never have to share anything you’re not comfortable with.

All the letters will eventually be woven together into a paper sculpture, which will be exhibited once the project is complete.

If you’d like to take part, DM me and I’ll send you the details on how to send your letter, either by post or by email. 🩵

Last day of my residency at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop. 🩵 A little sad this month went by so fast…part of me wishes I could keep this project going.

Letter to Home 家書 has been more challenging than I expected, but in a good way. One participant told me that once she started writing about home, emotions surfaced that she hadn’t expected, and it moved her deeply. It’s personal, sometimes hard to begin, but for many it opened up something they didn’t know was there.

So I feel incredibly lucky to have received around 20 letters in just over three weeks. 🥹🩵 Some people wrote for the project themselves; others helped me reach their communities, friends and family. I’m deeply grateful for every bit of support.

Letter to Home 家書

When was the last time you wrote a letter?

There was a time when a letter was one of the few ways we could reach the people and places we loved. It carried words, memories, worries and love across countries and oceans.

We write fewer letters now. Perhaps that is why they feel more precious.
For my project Letter to Home 家書, I invite you, if you live in Edinburgh and carry the experience of immigration, to write one letter to your home.

But what is home?
The place you were born.
Where you live now.
Someone you left behind.
A memory.
A feeling.
Somewhere that lives only inside your heart.

Write on plain A4 paper, in any colour of pen. Your letter may be a few lines or many pages, in any language. There is no right or wrong way.

Something you have never said. Something you miss. Something you love. Or simply something you wish to say to home.

With your permission, the letter will be cut into paper thread and woven with others into a collective work. Excerpts from some letters may appear anonymously beside photographs taken in Edinburgh.
The original documented letter remains in my archive.

One letter, one voice, one story.
Together they become one.

Some exciting news I’ve been looking forward to sharing! 💙

I’m so happy to be undertaking a one-month residency at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop in Edinburgh Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop this September.

I arrived yesterday and started in the studio today. I absolutely love my new studio space. It’s spacious, filled with beautiful natural light, and already feels like a wonderful place to begin something new.

And what I found especially beautiful was this little bunch of dried lavender attached to the wall, left behind by the Lebanese artist who was here before me. I love the thought that something of her presence has stayed behind and is now quietly welcoming me into the space. 💙💜

A new place, a new chapter, and a new project beginning…

I’m feeling very grateful and excited to see where this month will take me. 🫶✨

Somehow, Campbelltown has always held a very special place in my heart. ❤️

When I first came to Australia, I lived nearby. I got married in the church there, and later had my first baby christened in that very same church. So much of my early life in Australia, both the challenges and the precious memories, is connected to this place. And now, many years later, it feels incredibly special to have my work shown there for the first time, as a finalist in the 2026 Fisher’s Ghost Art Award! 🙌❣️

I’m so excited and grateful to be part of this wonderful exhibition, and to return to a place that holds so much personal history for me. ❤️🤍💙

The installation of “Weight of History: Borne Across Borders” is now complete at Manly Art Gallery and Museum Manly Art Gallery & Museum, as part of the 2026 Northern Beaches Environmental Art & Design Prize.

During the installation, the curator asked me, “Why eggshell?”

For me, eggshells carry the memory of fragility and resilience. They remind me of the image of “雞蛋高牆” — the contrast between the ordinary and the powerful, the fragile and the unyielding. Like the many people who have little voice or power, the smallest can be vulnerable when facing forces much greater than themselves.

The eggshell fragments in this work are remnants from my previous work, pieces that have been walked over and crushed by people. They carry traces of encounters, histories, and lived experiences.

I only spent 4 days and 3 nights in Adelaide on my very first visit, meeting artists, visiting galleries, and having my first film screening there. It all happened so quickly, and I felt a little overwhelmed, but in the best possible way! 🙌

Everyone was so warm, supportive, and welcoming. I truly felt so blessed 🥹💗

A huge thank you to my dear friend Janette Janette Gay for welcoming me into her lovely, cosy home and driving me around. Your kindness meant so much to me. 💕

And a big shout-out to Alyssa Alyssa Powell-Ascura | Filipina Australian | artist & writer an amazing writer, curator and artist, for organising the wonderful gathering of talented local artists at the lovely Smoky Fish Café, and for taking me to so many inspiring galleries: Feltspace, The Mills Gallery, ACE Gallery, The David Roche Foundation, AGSA, The Little Machine, Floating Duck, Hugo Michell Gallery and JamFactory.

I was lucky that SALA was on because art was everywhere! ✨

The screening and artist talk at Mercury Cinema were unforgettable. The venue, the audience, the conversations… everything was new to me. What an incredible experience. I feel deeply grateful for the warmth, generosity and encouragement I received throughout my visit.

Thank you, Adelaide. I can’t wait to see you again soon! 🙌💕💗
