The incident I used as inspiration for my piece, where a houseless camp was destroyed by the Moreton Bay city council, is now in the Supreme Court.

"Barrister Hamish Clift, acting for Basic Rights Queensland, told the court Moreton Bay's actions infringed the Human Rights Act.

He said those affected had been denied the right to home and privacy, the right to property, and freedom from cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment.

"What is blindingly clear is there was no consideration of the applicants' human rights — there was not even space to consider it," Mr Clift told the court.

"The applicants are all homeless and sleeping rough on public land, they have nowhere else to go, there is no alternative, they are all indigent and vulnerable."

Mr Clift said at least two of his clients could not have given consent at all, since they were not present when the council officers bulldozed their belongings.

He said his clients were given 15 days to appeal the council's decision, which was rendered pointless by the fact they were given only one hour to remove their belongings."

I have decided to do a piece with botanical drawings inspired by the Voynich Manuscript. I found a few websites where they believe they have found the real plants depicted in this strange document.

I'm using Prismacolour pencils on black Art Spectrum Colourfix Paper.

Many congratulations to all the winners! Well deserved!

Here is my entry for the 50th Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards.

"repudiated people" speaks to the issues for unhoused people and how they are treated. Below is my artist statement. And yes, that is a real $100 note.

Many people are just two pay slips away from becoming houseless. The media’s lack of compassion for unhoused individuals strips them of their dignity, a behaviour reflected at all societal levels.

They are shown as lesser, unwanted, and undesirable.

Homelessness is not a choice one makes or seeks.

By defacing currency and placing it on a pedestal, I aim to connect money with the value of human life as portrayed in the media.

The base is covered with text from social media posts and news articles, listed below.

‘Fox and Friends’ co-host Brian Kilmeade suggested euthanizing unhoused people with mental health issues who decline help, saying, ‘Just kill ’em’.

City of Moreton Bay claims homeless people consented to having camps thrown away - ABC News

A Queensland council says homeless campers "consented" to having their tents destroyed and possessions thrown into rubbish trucks during the clearing of a park used by rough sleepers.

The City of Moreton Bay denied destroying people's property and said it only removed "unwanted items" from camps that had been "abandoned" by their owners.

Former homeless woman Debbie Bobeldyk said she had not left her camp willingly, nor had she consented to the council throwing out her personal belongings.

She said the council threw away an urn containing her daughter's ashes, her fridge, portable air conditioner and several fences.

Ms Bobeldyk said council officers gave her and her husband, John, one hour to collect what belongings they could before officers demolished their tent site with an excavator.

"We couldn't pack everything up in that time, I could hardly breathe because of the panic, we could hardly get any of it," Ms Bobeldyk said.

"We never gave them permission."

"We were treated like mongrel dogs."

Over a week ago, I had my single most successful day selling my art.

With the encouragement of many and the support of a wonderful partner, I had my artwork digitised and prints made.

I learned a great deal, experienced the surreal nature of seeing so many duplicates of my work and felt humbled by being received so warmly by those who stopped at my stall.

I think I'm somewhat still in shock, to be honest.

I am so very thankful for everyone who continues to compliment me even though I shy away and act dismissive sometimes. I'm still learning how to respond.

Looking forward, I will keep creating art and will aim to share more here.

So, thanks again, to everyone.

I was reading this article and then scrolling through some of the other featured entries and then literally exclaimed out loud! Richard Klekociuk, the man who introduced me to the coloured pencils I use now, has his work shortlisted! When I saw it, I recognised his style but was still delighted to see his name.

Moreover, massive congratulations to Sophie Cape for winning with her piece which captures the beauty and pain of Australia's landscape.

All the works selected are stunning to behold. Take a moment to read this article and see the diversity and richness within these artworks.

Former track cyclist and downhill skier Sophie Cape says she struggled after losing her Olympic dreams to injury but found catharsis in art school.
