Before and after in Leopold.

Out went the old white picket fence and the rock edge along the footpath. In went a pine sleeper retaining wall on steel posts, a timber paling fence on top, and Colorbond double swing gates down the side.

1.95m lapped and capped pine paling out at Bannockburn.
New build, so we started with a bare block and a string line. Nothing to pull down, which makes a nice change.
Lapped palings, capping on top, the lot. Materials from Fencing Supplies.
Final quality inspection in progress. Very scientific.

Full boundary rebuild in Geelong West — both sides of it.

The neighbour's retaining wall was failing. Rather than stand a new fence against it, we rebuilt theirs as well, on top of what our client had asked for. One boundary, two properties, sorted in the one visit instead of two jobs six months apart.

That's me at the end of it, Geelong West.

No machine was ever getting down this side passage, so every post hole was dug by hand. 125 square posts, over a metre deep, set with plenty of cement — they're holding back soil, not just carrying palings.

None of that shows up in a photo of a finished fence. It's the part you're actually paying for.

Side passage in Geelong West. Too tight to get a machine down, so the whole lot was dug by hand.

If your block needs retaining as well as fencing, you might not need the expensive version. A steel upright retaining wall with a separate fence built on top is one way to do it. Where the site allows, the retaining wall can be built into the fence as one structure instead — same outcome, and it can save you upwards of $10,000.

Worth knowing before you sign off on the dearer option.

Custom Hamlyn-style fence out at Teesdale. This one's a bit different. It's a dog run, but the owners didn't want the usual wire and star picket look ruining the front of a nice rural property, so we built them something that earns its place. Fully timber, custom-built, with a custom gate to match. LOSP plinth boards and big 125 x 125 posts, because out that way the wind gets a run-up. We did the full prep and prime ourselves, then two coats of quality paint - that's the part nobody sees, but it's the part that decides whether it still looks like this in five years. Timber supplied by Trade Fencing Supplies. Turned up to proper Geelong fog that morning, so the photos are a bit moody, but the fence still looks alright. If you want something built rather than just installed, give us a call.

Colorbond front fence and gates in Highton.

Corner block, so it's a long run of fence on show from two streets. 1.8 metre Ironstone Colorbond with exposed timber posts, which is what gives it that bit of warmth against the grey.

Kept the original brick pier and letterbox and built the fence around it. No point ripping out something that's still good and suits the house.

Pedestrian gate on the path, double gates across the driveway, all matched to the fence.

Raw cypress slats, 38 x 25, oiled up. All the steel work is custom. RHS frames welded on site, nothing pre-made. Gates hung square and they'll stay that way.
