Our latest heritage window project is now complete, combining the traditional look of colonial-style windows with the performance of modern aluminium framing and double glazing.

Featuring Alspec aluminium framing with custom Controllaview internal colonial bars sealed inside the double glazed units, giving the classic heritage appearance while keeping the glass surfaces smooth and easy to clean.

Most importantly, the upgrade was completed while keeping the existing Tyrolean exterior finish intact, maintaining the original character of the building.

A great example of how you can upgrade the comfort, efficiency and performance of an older property without losing what makes it unique.

We were engaged by our client to complete the full installation of their premium Aluplast uPVC window system by Solace Creations, delivering a complete turnkey installation from start to finish.

This wasn’t just a simple window replacement. Our team completed:

How do you actually read a WERS label?

Most people compare windows by asking:

❌ “Is it double glazed?”

But that’s only part of the story.

A WERS label gives you a much clearer picture of how a window will actually perform in your home.

Here’s what to look for:

🔹 U-Value – How well the window insulates your home. (Lower is better.)

🔹 SHGC (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient) – How much of the sun’s heat enters through the glass. The ideal value depends on your home’s orientation and climate.

🔹 Air Leakage – Measures how much unwanted air can pass through the window system. Lower air leakage helps improve comfort and energy efficiency.

🔹 Visible Transmittance (VT) – Shows how much natural daylight passes through the glass.

⭐ Performance Grade – An easy snapshot of the window’s overall energy performance.

The next time you’re comparing quotes, don’t just ask if the windows are double glazed…

Not all double glazed windows perform the same.

One of the biggest misconceptions we see is that if a window is double glazed, it must be energy efficient.

The reality is that two windows can both be double glazed and perform very differently.

The two numbers to understand are:

• U-Value – how well the window insulates your home.

• SHGC – how much of the sun’s heat enters through the window.

When you understand these two numbers, you’ll make a much better investment in your home’s comfort and energy efficiency.
