🎉 THE EVOLUTION OF DUBBO YARD MAINTENANCE | 4 YEARS 🎉
We’re celebrating our fourth birthday… only about a month late, which probably sums up how busy the last four years have been 😂
Four years ago, I started Dubbo Yard Maintenance as an in-between gig.
A chapter of my career had closed and, like plenty of start-ups you see around town, I thought I’d mow a few lawns, clean up a few yards and keep myself busy until I figured out what I wanted to dive into next.
Turns out, I’d already found it.
Somewhere between those first lawns, overgrown gardens and trailer loads of green waste, I found a genuine passion for transforming outdoor spaces.
I fell in love with the before and after.
Taking something tired, forgotten or completely overgrown and giving it life again. Learning the art of shaping shrubs and hedges, understanding trees, laying turf, renovating yards, landscaping, gardening and eventually taking on projects I never would have imagined us doing when this all started.
And I say “us” because there has never been an “I” in this business.
Over four years, we have built something I’m incredibly proud of.
We’ve worked across thousands of yards and properties throughout Dubbo and the Central West.
Along the way, almost 100 people have worn the Dubbo Yard Maintenance shirt in some capacity. Full-timers, weekenders, people between jobs, career changers, single mums and dads, young kids getting their first taste of work and people who simply needed someone to give them a chance.
People from all walks of life have played a part in building DYM into what it is today, and I’ll forever be grateful for that.
Every year we’ve backed ourselves and reinvested into becoming better.
What started with the basics has grown into trucks, tipper trailers, excavators, earthmoving equipment, Kangas and a fleet capable of taking on work that once seemed completely out of reach.
We’ve even built our own shed. A home base for the gear, maintenance, storage, toolbox talks, workshops and probably more sh*t-talking than I should publicly admit 😂
But one of the things I’m proudest of has nothing to do with equipment or how many jobs we complete.
Over the years we’ve donated tens of thousands of dollars back into the community that supports us. Grassroots sporting clubs, local fundraisers, community giveaways and plenty of work done quietly and free of charge for people who simply needed a hand.
I’ve always believed that if the community backs us, we should back the community.
Four years later, I can look at Dubbo Yard Maintenance and genuinely say it became far more than the “in-between gig” I thought I was starting.
It became my career.
It became a passion.
It created jobs, friendships and opportunities.
It gave people chances.
It gave me something to build.
And together, we’ve built one hell of a business.
To every person who has worked alongside me, every client who has trusted us with their property, every business that has supported us, every person who has recommended our name and everyone who has followed the journey from the beginning, thank you.
I’m incredibly grateful for what we’ve built, but even more excited about where we’re going.
