There’s nothing cookie-cutter about this space. From the sweeping curves and unexpected angles to the changes in floor level, natural timber and huge windows, every detail has been designed to give the home its own character while still feeling open, bright and connected.

The kitchen sits beautifully within the space without dominating it, while the raised piano area, curved upper level and timber detailing add plenty of personality from every angle.

A pretty special result and one we loved seeing come together.

🎶 Here comes the rain again… well, sort of! 😂

Putting the windows and doors to the test with a good soaking before we get too far along with this build.

And this is exactly why we do it. During testing we actually found a water leak, were able to identify why it was happening and rectify it before the cladding and internal fit-out were completed.

The testing also helps demonstrate how any condensation within the wall system can drain out, allowing the wall cavity to dry as it’s designed to.

Much better to find these things with a hose now than during a Gippsland downpour later!

Who knew your old jeans could help keep a home cosy? 👖🏡♻️

We’re installing Jeanius™ Denim Insulation by Planet Protector on site, and this is one building product we’re pretty excited about.

Made in Victoria from more than 85% recycled denim fibres, Jeanius gives textile waste a second life instead of sending it to landfill. It also delivers excellent thermal performance, with options up to R6, helping homes stay warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Plus, it offers great acoustic performance and is soft, low-irritant and free from added harmful chemicals.

For us, sustainable building isn’t just about one big decision. It’s about making better choices at every stage of the build – from the structure right through to what goes inside the walls.

We love seeing innovative, Australian-made products like this becoming more accessible to builders, and a big thanks to Bowens for supplying the Jeanius insulation for this project. 🙌

Builder by day… master of arts and crafts by night 😂

Breaking out the cardboard and glue this week to demonstrate how a bolt-on eave with ventilated roof and wall cavities will come together.

It’s a simple way of showing designers and subcontractors exactly what we’re trying to achieve, continuous ventilation through the cavities to help with condensation control.

Not quite ready for the art gallery, but it does the job!

It’s All in the Details…

It’s often the little things you don’t notice straight away that make a home feel really special.

The beautiful feature wallpaper catching the natural light.
The warm glow of carefully placed lighting.
The tapware, tiles and finishes that all work together.

In our recently completed Surf Beach Small Second Dwelling, these details were especially important. We wanted the home to feel practical and easy to live in, but also warm, personal and very much like home.

Because thoughtful, accessible design doesn’t have to feel clinical, it can have plenty of personality too. 🌿

The staircase at our recent Ventnor project was crafted from hand-selected, high-quality timber, chosen to showcase the natural grain, markings and character of the wood.

From the stair treads and mitred joins through to the custom handrail, there’s a lot of careful workmanship in what might seem like a simple part of the home.

We love working with natural materials like this and letting their character become part of the finished build. A beautiful result and a credit to the care that went into every detail.
