Business Update-Build Conserve.

I receive many inquiries regarding Build Conserve & I thought it best to clarify my current availability & what services I can provide for the time being.

Just on 2 years ago, I had an accident & lost the sight in both eyes. Following treatment at the Eye & Ear hospital & many return visits, thankfully, my sight has returned somewhat, but my eyes have been physically & irreparably damaged.

It was around that time that I had started building an off grid straw bale home for my son & I which I am continuing to build. With the accident, life came to an abrupt halt for a while. Along with the ingravescent rain events we have experienced over that time, it has caused significant delays to my house build & being able to attend to conservation jobs.
Since that time, I have been unable to complete larger scale heritage conservation works that I have previously performed, & also for the immediate future.

I currently can provide;

Free advice for your heritage building/project to achieve the right outcomes via phone or email as always.
Building conservation assessments & reports.
Pre purchase heritage building inspections.
Emergency work that requires immediate remediation/repair due to safety concerns.
Site visits to assist in methodologies, best practice & identification of problems.

I hope this clarifies my current availability & l look forward too assisting as required.

This old chimney has had one to many Santa’s squeezing down it. It’s going to take quite the rebuild, but it’s so important to conserve the original details of historic homes, rather than remove them or knock it down. The moulds serve an important water protection/smoke draft creation purpose & also look pretty beautiful. We can rebuild it..

The brickwork has been rebuilt with lime, jarrah floor in place, finally the handrail & balusters. The timber friezes are leftovers from the original verandah detail along the top pitching beam. We made a couple more to match with 120 year old timber, as you can’t get the same thickness today. The owners are once again enjoying their cups of tea reclining in the sun (or shade now!).

In the beginning..., these chimney moulds/cornice have lasted 140+ years on the old Police Residence in Fyerstown with the chimney itself not far off collapse. Repointed in lime mortar, then moulds run in composite render, as per original. So pleased we were able to conserve them & not see it torn down, like so many have been in the past.

Bendigo Cemetery Chimneys re-instatement x 5. The top of the chimneys required extensive rebuilding & in order for Santa to safely access this christmas, they required the brick work to be repointed in lime mortar, rendered in composite mortar & the hood moulds rerun. A terrific outcome & should last another 150 years.
