Image 1-5-6-7 are evidence and slight damage of timber borers , images 2-3-4 is of termite damage. Timber borers leave small pin holes behind ranging from 1.5mm to 3.5 mm and larger in some cases to fresh timber and trees. They leave dust (frass) behind also and that will help determine what borer we are dealing with. Here is a little comparison between the two. Borers are no real threat to the structure of the home in Victoria in most cases but can ingest certain Timbers and our easiest recommendation is to replace the infected Timbers with a resistant timber or hardwood. Prevention can be easy as replacing timber , spraying with insecticide to kill adults emerging (however damage has been done), drying out timber , small furniture antiques can be fumigated or heat treated. Quick solution replace the Timbers rather than spending money on treatments. Can be costly and add up with not much certainty or warranty as replacing the timber.
