They didn't need to leave the suburb they loved.

They needed their house to work better for the family living in it.

This project gave them more usable space, and a home that made more sense for how they actually live.

That's the part of renovating we like.

Not building bigger for the sake of it.

Building what's needed.

Want to talk through what your existing home could become in 2027?

Mountain Rd is almost there.

No ceiling yet, but the shape of this space is finally real - flooring down, doors in. This is the point in every build where it stops feeling like a construction site and starts feeling like the room it's going to be.

Not far off now.

Christmas has a habit of making renovation timelines feel a lot closer than they actually are.

If you're hoping to have a renovation completed before Christmas, the build itself is only part of the timeline.

There's design.
Approvals.
Selections.
Scheduling.
Materials.
Then the actual construction.

We would much rather have the conversation early and tell you what is realistic than promise a date that was never achievable.

If you're sitting on an 18-month-old renovation folder, this might be the year to pull it back out.

DM BUILD and we'll start with the right conversation.

Flashback to the demo stage on Lantana Rd - before any of this was possible.

Every finished space you see from us started here: stripped back to the bones, walls opened up, the guesswork removed before a single new material goes in. It’s the least glamorous part of the job and the most important - you can’t build the plan properly until you know exactly what’s behind the walls.

This is the bit most builders don’t show. We do, because it’s where the real decisions get made.

DM us PROJECT for the full breakdown on how this one came together.

Check out the final transformation on the work we completed at Coogee.

Opened up the kitchen and living room by removing a full structural brick wall - while keeping the original timber picture rail exactly where heritage compliance required it.

The fix: structural concrete beams engineered to carry the load from the units above, built around the existing rail so the period detail stays intact.

One open, connected living space - still true to the building it's in.

We look at every dead space in a build and ask: can this hold something?

On the Mountain Rd job, this angled nook under the roofline is the kind of spot most builds just sheet over and lose. We fitted three solid timber shelves to follow the angle exactly, cornice carried through so it sits as part of the room - turning an awkward gap into proper, usable storage.

It's the same question on every job: understairs, eaves, the space beside a chimney breast, the gap above a wardrobe. If there's a void, there's a way to make it work for the house.

Choosing a builder isn't just about finding someone whose finished projects you like.

It's about finding someone you trust when something doesn't go according to plan.

We'd be asking:
What's included?
What's excluded?
Who is actually responsible for my project?
What could cause a variation?
What are the difficult parts of this job?

If the answers aren't clear before you sign, don't expect them to magically become clearer once construction starts.

Save this before your next builder meeting.

This is one of the biggest reasons online renovation budgets can be misleading.

Two homes can end up looking almost identical but require completely different amounts of work to get there.

A new window might look like a simple change.
A wall might look like something you can knock out in an afternoon.
A bathroom might look like a straightforward replacement.

Until you start working out what's actually behind the walls.

That's why we look at the house, not just the inspiration photos.

Because the photo tells you what you want.

The existing building tells you what it will take.

Save this one for your renovation planning folder.

Lantana Rd started with one decision: strip it back to the studs.

Every internal lining, all the old electrical wiring, every plumbing service, gone. New bathroom, new kitchen, new laundry, new flooring, new wiring, new pipes, new windows, new cladding. A full composite back deck. Roof space storage with a proper attic ladder instead of a manhole and a prayer.

This is the difference between a reno and a rebuild behind a facade. Most builders will patch around what's there because it's faster and cheaper to quote. We pulled it all out because the owners are staying another 20 years, and old wiring and rotting linings don't get better with paint.

We were on site for every stage of this one, not just the pretty parts.

DM BUILD if your place needs the same conversation - we have limited capacity for some smaller jobs over the remainder of the year.
