And the timing couldn't be more significant. 📰

Just days ago, Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Nicușor Dan signed an agreement in Bucharest to build two new high-voltage interconnectors between Ukraine and Romania — one ready as early as the end of 2026, the other within two years. President Zelenskyy specifically named Chernivtsi Oblast as a key beneficiary region. That is precisely where the Dniester Pumped Storage Power Plant (PSPP) stands — on the Nistru river, at the junction of Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania.

This is not a coincidence. It is the infrastructure backbone that makes MHB-DNIESTER not just timely, but essential.

Romania is rapidly becoming one of Europe's top solar producers — but excess generation during peak hours has nowhere to go. The Dniester PSPP, already synchronised with ENTSO-E since March 2022 and capable of 2,268 MW at full capacity, is one of Europe's most underutilised grid-balancing assets. With the new UA–RO interconnectors now being built, the Dniester hydrobattery becomes the missing link: charge it with Romanian and Ukrainian excess solar, dispatch it back when the grid needs it, across the Nistru and Prut river corridor.

Two new power lines. One hydrobattery. A regional flexibility hub for the UA–MD–RO energy corridor — and a concrete answer to the question of what to do with Europe's renewable surplus.

One Lake Pumped Hydro Energy Storage OLPHES was mentioned in Australian Financial Review:
Another example of seasteading technology is the hydro-electric storage device, OLPHES, of Australian Seasteading Institute ambassador Dan Barbulescu, which uses solar power to pump water into an inflatable pool during the day, releasing it at night to generate power. The investment manager is testing a prototype in Canberra, and estimates devices in the Tahiti seastead's breakwater could generate 600kWh of energy, which could be pumped onshore to alleviate sky-high local electricity prices. He likens seasteads to a "fleet of yachts that sail from port to port", docking in "private marinas".
