1 September — the first day of spring! 🌼☀️

After a cold, wet winter here in the South West, our lawns are ready for a little sunshine — and there’s plenty to look forward to as the growing season gets underway.

Spring is the perfect time to give your lawn some TLC and get it ready for the warmer months. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing plenty of spring lawn-care tips, including:

After a wet winter, your lawn may need a little extra attention before the weather warms up and growth kicks back in.

Now is a good time to start checking for:
🌱 Winter w**ds that have taken hold
🔎 Bare or thin patches that may need some TLC
🍃 Thatch or debris that could be restricting growth
🦠 Signs of disease after prolonged wet conditions
🌿 Nutrient deficiencies showing up as pale or tired-looking turf

You don't have to wait for spring to start preparing.

Turf tip Tuesday:

Yesterday certainly gave our lawns and gardens a workout! 🌧️💨

While plenty of rain is great for the garden, heavy rainfall can create problems of its own — especially where water is moving quickly across the surface.

Keep an eye out for:
💧 Water pooling or sitting in low spots
🌱 Exposed roots or soil
〰️ Small channels or grooves forming where water is running
🟤 Soil or mulch being washed away
🚜 Boggy or heavily trafficked areas becoming damaged

If you notice water consistently taking the same path across your property, it could be a sign that runoff and erosion need to be managed, rather than simply waiting for the ground to dry out.

A little prevention can go a long way when the next big downpour arrives!

Turf tip Tuesday 🌱

After the wild weather, give your lawn a little time to bounce back. With the sunshine back today, it can be tempting to get straight back into the garden — but first, check your soil conditions.

Before mowing or doing any heavy lawn work:
✔️ Make sure the ground has dried out enough
✔️ Check for areas of waterlogging or pooling
✔️ Avoid heavy traffic on soft, wet soil
✔️ Once conditions are right, take advantage of the sunshine to get your lawn back on track ☀️🌱
