We’re giving away a place at our upcoming 4-Day Traditional Timber Framing Course, Narooma — 8–11 October 2026.

This one is for carpentery apprentices only.

We want to give an Australian apprentice the opportunity to step away from the everyday jobsite and spend four days learning the fundamentals of traditional timber framing — working with full-size timbers, traditional hand tools and mortice-and-tenon joinery.

Winner drawn 1 September 2026.

The winner will receive one place in our 4-Day Traditional Timber Framing Course, 8–11 October 2026.

You’ll need to organise your own travel to and from the course and provide your own food during the four days. Onsite camping is available.

No need to show us the finest work you’ve ever done. We’re more interested in apprentices who are interested in the craft, want to learn, and take pride in getting better at what they do.

Tag an apprentice who should come along and join.

Milling by yourself is a lot more physical and much slower, but there nothing like a day amongst the trees by yourself.

It’s been a while since I’ve spent the day in the trees.

First log set up for the new model 10.

Had this old Redgum come down in the 2019 fires, finally time to make something from it.

First the timber will be used for the visual grading course, then into some builds.

Great way to finish the week off.

Free local event!

Join us at Anchorage Farm Narooma on the 2nd of October for a Lucas Mill training day run by Ian Schultz from Lucas Mill

We will be setting up the model 10 with all of the attachments as we work our way through a log.

If you are looking to get into milling your own timber or just looking for some professional guidance with your mill, this event is perfect.

Whilst you are there, stay for the visual grading course so you can build with your own timber.

They are a step in the process to help maximize yield, but they will not save a poor quality log.

Emulsified wax - a brush on product that seals up the end grain of a log to slow down the drying process. If left un sealed, the end of the log will loose moisture too fast, resulting in end checking.

Nail plates - a steel plate with many small nails, hammered into the end of the log to stop the ends from splitting.

Their job is to improve the quality of timber at the ends of the logs to maintain as much useable timber as possible. An important step if the goal is high value timber.

If the logs are of poor quality however, they will not save them.

I have sealed and plated many poor quality logs that developed major checking and even split the steel plate in half.

I have also milled many logs without any sealer or plates and they have not developed any faults on the ends.

My personal finding is that the species characteristics, growing conditions and age of tree will vastly determine the quality of timber produced, the sealer and plates will compliment.

To be honest, I’m just making courses that I want to be apart of.

Bringing instructors together from across the country with experience taken from all over the world and share together in one place.

Building ambitious projects with only traditional hand tools that we would not otherwise get the chance to do.

Sharing the workspace with like minded craftsmen looking to push their own craft.

We have a couple spots left in our October 4 day hammer beam course. Bring the family, camp onsite and let’s build something special.

I’m obsessed with creating, it’s what drives me to build this company.

I don’t want to be another creative hiding in the shadows. I want to build this company as a gateway to creative freedom.

It takes a lot the run a building company, and as it evolves I begin to see myself as the facilitator. Building a space that allows like minded people to learn and build.
