If you’re a qualified electrician living in Bacchus Marsh or Melton and you want a good local job where you can earn good money, have a life outside of work and actually enjoy the people you work with and the customers you meet, this might be worth a read.
We’re looking for another electrician to join our small team at NextGen Electricians.
Work life balance is a big one for us. We work to live, not live to work.
We start at 7:00am and finish at 3:30pm. We have a 10 minute break and a half hour lunch break each day. We normally aim for around 9:00am and 12:00pm, but exactly when you take them is up to you and how your day is running. No one is watching the clock or telling you when you’re allowed to stop for lunch.
Our 13 RDOs each year are scheduled around long weekends because if there’s an opportunity to turn a long weekend into an even longer one, we’re taking it 😂
The job itself is pretty simple.
We want to do good work for good people.
We spend our days working in people’s homes around Bacchus Marsh and Melton. You get to know customers, have a chat, build relationships with people around town and help them sort out the electrical work they need done.
That’s why being a people person is probably the biggest requirement for us.
Obviously you need to be a good electrician, but we need someone who enjoys talking to customers, can explain things properly and makes people feel comfortable having us in their home.
For the first four weeks, we’ll all work together while you learn how we operate, get to know our customers and settle into the role.
We’ll completely train you on our quoting process as well. Once you’re ready, you’ll be quoting your own jobs, completing the work and managing your own day. We want you to have the freedom to run your day without someone constantly looking over your shoulder.
We use ServiceM8 for all our scheduling and job management, so everything is organised through your iPad.
Once you’re out running your own jobs, Jakob will work alongside you as your apprentice. He’s spent the last 12 months training alongside Harley, so he already knows our systems, our customers and how we like to do things.
The plan from there is to keep growing. Once our new electrician has settled in, we’ll bring on a second apprentice as well.
We already have a fully set up work van ready to go. You’ll have the van, fuel card, company credit card, iPad and everything else you need.
And of course all the standard employment inclusions are there as they should be. Superannuation, annual leave, sick leave, public holidays, long service leave etc.
A little bit about who you’ll be working with:
I’m Harley, 29, with a 16 month old daughter and two British Bulldogs. I’m into camping, four wheel driving, travelling overseas and I go for the Roos.
Jakob is 19, loves his footy, basketball and camping, and plays for Darley Football Club. Unfortunately he’s a Bombers supporter, but we don’t hold that against him 😂
We’re a small team, so finding someone who fits in with us is really important.
We also do regular team training on both electrical work and customer service. We’re always looking at ways we can improve and get better at what we do.
As for the workload, there’s plenty.
We’re pretty much always booked a month ahead and Harley and Jakob simply can’t get to everyone. We’re regularly having to turn away or refer work elsewhere because we just don’t have enough hands.
We genuinely need another electrician so we can keep looking after the people around Bacchus Marsh who are calling us.
But we need the right person.
We’re not going to hire someone just to fill the van. If we find one great electrician, we’ll hire them. If two great electricians come along who suit us, we’ll hire both. The work is already here.

PLEASE NOTE: We’re not currently hiring apprentices. We need to get our next qualified electrician settled in first, then we’ll be looking for another apprentice around three months later. We’ll put up a separate ad when we’re ready 👍
