This morning we bid farewell to our trusty 3 ton tipper. It's been a great little workhorse but now is going to a new home and has been replaced by a new larger capacity 4 ton tipper. Large toolboxes and more capacity for materials will be a real game changer. Even a bit of luxury with a suspension seat! No more cluttered cabins and forgotten tools.... Well less so anyway 😂

What started out as a fairly straightforward backyard lawn prep digout in Mt Barker ended up turning into a full yard renovation.

Once we started stripping things back, we discovered the stormwater pipes underneath had been damaged by tree roots. That meant grinding out the stump, digging down to locate the damaged sections and removing the roots from around the pipes so the stormwater repairs could be carried out properly.

While we were there, we removed the old lawn, water tank and other debris, then prepared and levelled the backyard ready for new lawn.

The undercover area was prepared and paved, and we finished the pathways with Rubberstone to give the whole area a fresh new look.

Sometimes that’s just how these jobs pan out. You start with one job, uncover a few other problems along the way, and before you know it you’re doing the complete transformation. Being able to offer the full service means we can take care of the different stages and keep the whole project moving.

Another Mt Barker transformation by Tom’s Outdoor Solutions.

Another new build transformed and ready for the owners to start planting! 🌱

This project began with the typical challenges we often see on newly built homes—hard clay soil, leftover building rubble and unfinished outdoor areas.

Our work included:
• Removal of building rubble and excess soil.
• Truck in dolomite sand to create a clean, level verge with great street appeal.
• Application of generouse amounts of gypsum and premium landscape soil throughout all future garden beds to help improve the heavy clay and create healthier growing conditions for trees and plants.
• Rebuilding a section of retaining wall using natural bluestone.
• Fabrication and installation of two galvanised steel trellises.
• Installation of garden edging and a brand-new lawn to complete the backyard.

Good landscaping isn't just about how it looks on day one—it's about creating the right foundation so your garden continues to improve and thrive for years to come.

Working at Mt Barker early this week. Blocked stormwater drains can cause problems especially with so much rain recently. I investigated this drain to locate the blockage, turns out there was a crushed pipe and clogged sump underneath this stump. Whole drain flushed and checked, a few minor repairs and it will be good for future winters.
