The Biomass Carbon Cycle 🔄

Biomass is a renewable energy source and part of the biogenic carbon cycle. As trees grow, they absorb CO₂ from the atmosphere and store carbon in their wood. When biomass is used for heating, CO₂ is released back into the atmosphere. In sustainably managed forests, new tree growth can absorb carbon from the atmosphere over time 🔄

Fossil fuels, by contrast, release carbon that has been stored underground for millions of years.

It is important to note that emissions also arise from harvesting, processing and transporting wood. The overall environmental impact depends on factors such as forest management practices, processing methods and transport distances.
