Big day at the field! Today I’m testing the new pre-rotation system on the PLANEPRINT Gyrocopter. Getting those main rotors up to speed before takeoff is key. Let’s see how well this setup performs!

Currently, the PLANEPRINT gyrocopter still needs a bit of wind to get the rotor up to speed before takeoff. The next step is to install a small auxiliary motor to handle this task. I’ve ordered the electronics; I’m curious to see if it will work.

Now that the PLANEPRINT gyrocopter is flying successfully, it was time to optimize the design. This mechanism can be adapted to the fuselage later on. Another challenge is installing a launch motor for the rotor. Lots to do, but a lot of fun 🤩

After a few attempts with different rotor heads and prototypes, my first gyrocopter is finally flying—and very well, at that! This was completely new territory for me, and there were several times when I thought it would never work. But hey, you learn by taking on challenges 😆 Almost the entire model is 3D-printed from PLA+ and TPU, even the rotor blades.
